Taking a long hot shower in the comfort of your own home can be an incredibly relaxing experience at the end or indeed, the beginning of a long hard day. But there is one functional and very stylish aspect of bathroom design which is often ignored by people and that is the outdoor shower and bath.

Those who have had an outdoor bath or shower enclosure; built often do so to rinse off outside after a swim in the sea or their pool. Which despite being a perfectly well suited purpose for the outdoor shower, does not apply to a great many people. But there are some other reasons why an outdoor shower could be perfect for you.

Outdoor showers: function

Rinsing off the salt water from the pool/sea is not the only functional reason to have one of these novel enclosures installed in your backyard, because until you?ve tried having a refreshing shower in the great outdoors you?ll never know just how enjoyable it can be. It can also make cleaning up after gardening and other such outdoor activities considerably easier, from cleaning the mud from your hands, arms and boots before stepping aside to showering off after a long jogging session and staying cool afterwards.

Also, don?t be selfish with your outdoor shower! If your doggy has muddy paws after a long walk then save your carpet?s appearance (and your sanity) but lumbering him in the outdoor shower too! I?m sure he?ll find it much more pleasant than being blasted with a hose pipe!

Outdoor showers: luxury

One of the best feelings which can come as a result of having an outdoor shower is the refreshing feel of that open space and a cool breeze has on your body after a long hot shower. This cooling sensation combined with the oddly natural feeling of washing under, or within very close proximity to an open sky are two of the best luxuries of having an outdoor shower.

Having an outdoor bath is a slightly different experience because it has less of an instantly refreshing feel after the process, but having a long soak in a hot bath surrounded by calming visions of the natural world is an incredibly relaxing experience. In fact this feeling is one which is often quoted as being the result of having an open plan spacious bathroom, but nothing can ever truly compare to actually having a bath in an outdoor enclosure which allows you to soak away your troubles whilst in the midst of nature.

Installing an outdoor shower

When it comes to actually having the enclosure and shower or bath installed there are a few things different things to consider. In essence there are two kinds of outdoor shower fixtures one of which being a standalone fixture and the other being wall mounted. Standalone fixtures attach to a length of flexible hosing and are fully mobile where as wall mounted showers are completely stationary. So when it comes to making a choice of shower the first thing you need to consider is whether you wish your outdoor shower to become a permanent fixture or whether you wish it to remain movable.

The very simplest of outdoor showers can even be hooked up to a hose pipe outlet, although this will generally only provide you with cold water, which can be quite a harsh experience! In all honesty the way to get the best out of an outdoor shower is to have it professionally installed to ensure it has all the functionality you desire.
