Labor Day: It "Works" for Your Small Business or Event! | WePay

Workers Holiday? is celebrated by a day off work

The start of September means Labor Day is upon us and just like that, the end of the summer season. The day is celebrated by outdoor activities, picnics, Bar-B-Ques? and family reunions. Labor Day is meant to celebrate regular working folks and recognize them for their struggles over the course of history. Coming out of the Industrial Revolution America organized the day to honor the men and women who built the nation by the sweat of their brow.

Labor Day was first celebrated by parades in New York City by? Unions workers, and President Grover Cleveland declared it a national holiday in 1894. Years later it became fixed on the first Monday in September. In modern times it? became a day that signified the end of summer and the change of the fashion season.

Here are just a few goings on happening on Labor Day. How can you tie these Labor Day traditions into your event or fundraiser?

Cause for casual

Labor Day may be one of the most casual of the year. The history of the worker?s plight in the early part of the formation of the United States is not well remembered and the day is not really marked with memorials or speeches. The holiday is mostly celebrated with family as we get together to enjoy the last rays of summer. For many it means the last weekend at? the beach. It?s still warm enough to enjoy the great outdoors and camping is one of the favorite endeavors of the long weekend. We don?t see a lot of fancy events marking a weekend that?s more suited for a back yard bash.

Change your clothes

Labor Day is a signal for the next season of fashion. Old rules about not wearing white after Labor Day are dead and buried but the day still signals the change of seasons. Hit the stores for big sales on Labor Day. Typically you will still find superb Back To School values on student supplies and clothing. Fall fashion is in swing and even if the cool weather hasn?t hit,? hot values are on tap.

September also is the first step into the Holiday season. Stores, malls and outlets are getting what you need to get ready for upcoming Autumn events. If you have a small business Labor Day (like a Wepay Store) is a perfect reason for a sale. Customers are more than ready to shed off the summer and get into new gear.

Sale Into September

If you have been thinking about buying a new car Labor Day may be the time to start looking. Car shopping is up in September because the prices are down. It is the month that manufacturers traditionally introduce the coming year?s models and the current year cars go on sale. Car sales are up in September when smart shoppers take advantage of the mark-downs.

Traditional summer items are great buys around Labor Day including camping gear, bicycles, and patio sets and accessories.

What?s For Fun?

If you are looking for that end of the season celebration think about traditional summer fun and go for it ? or go again. Theme and amusement parks will have last minute specials on tickets. If you have a baseball team in your city check for ticket specials. Even though baseball runs through October its thought of as a summer sport. The organizers are looking for a last surge of attendance over Labor Day and promote attendance with ticket packages and Fireworks for fans.

Labor Day is the time to let your hair down and squeeze all you can out of the last of the carefree summer. Kids might be dreading the new school year and parents can?t wait for things to settle back down to normal, in either case Labor Day is the chance to spend some quality time together before its back to the post-summer world.
